How to close your account

To close your personal current account, follow these steps.
Step 1: Check your account
- If you’re overdrawn, pay off your overdraft as we can’t close an overdrawn account
- Check there’s enough money to cover pending transactions or outstanding bank charges
- Cancel any Direct Debits or standing orders and set them up on another bank account
If there’s money due in such as your wages, get it sent to another bank account
If you want to transfer your balance to an overseas bank account, use the Online Account Closure form
Step 2: Close your account using the TSB Mobile Banking App
- Log into the TSB Mobile Banking app
- Tap the profile icon
- Tap Chat to us
- Type ‘close my account’ and answer the questions in the chat
- It typically takes us 2 days to close the account
- We’ll automatically deregister you from pay a contact

Can’t use the TSB Mobile Banking App? If you can’t use the app, use the Online Account Closure form. You’ll need photo ID and a mobile phone to verify your identity.

To close your business account, follow these steps:
Step 1: Check your balance
If you’re overdrawn, pay off your overdraft
Check there’s enough money to cover pending transactions or outstanding bank charges
Cancel any Direct Debits or standing orders and set them up on another bank account
If there’s money due in, get it sent to another bank account
Step 2: If your business needs only one person to sign, fill in the online form
Please use the Online Account Closure form. You’ll need photo ID and mobile phone to verify your identity.

Please download statements from the TSB Mobile Banking App or Internet Banking before you ask us to close your account.
If you’ve been paying off your balance gradually, there could still be interest and fees to pay that will show on your next statement. Please check your next statement to see if there’s anything else to pay.
You can cancel your credit card with an outstanding balance but you’ll still need to pay it off.
- You need to make at least minimum payments towards any remaining balance. If you only pay the minimum each month it’ll take you longer and cost you more to repay.
- For any balance we apply the same standard interest rate(s) you have now.
You'll no longer be able to use your card. Please destroy it securely by cutting through the chip.
You’ll still see your credit card in Internet Banking while there's a balance on the card. If the account is closed with a balance of zero, the account will be removed from Internet Banking overnight.
If you get any pending transactions, your card will reappear in Internet Banking and you'll need to make at least minimum payments towards the remaining balance.
If you change your mind in future you can always open a new credit card. But you’ll need to wait until your account has been closed for 6 months with a zero balance.
To close your savings account, including ISAs, use the TSB Mobile Banking App:

Can’t use the TSB Mobile Banking App?

You can close a joint savings account in the same way you close a savings account that belongs to just one person.
Only one person needs to request it and you only need one person’s photo ID.
To close a Fixed Rate Bond, you usually have to wait until the end of its term. But if your circumstances have changed significantly, you may be able to access your savings early.
Please contact us to discuss your circumstances if you wish close your Fixed Bond before the end of its term.
Go to a TSB branch
To open a new Monthly Saver, you need to wait a year from when you opened the last one. This is all explained in the Terms & Conditions of the account.
You can transfer a Junior ISA to another bank but you can’t close it until your child is 18.
To transfer a Junior ISA, ask your new provider to transfer the ISA.
If you close your Fixed Rate Cash ISA before the end of the term, you’ll pay a charge. You can find details about the amount of the charge in the product conditions.
